On sunday the 26th of july, the sgdq event will start. sgdq stand for Summer Games Done quick, and is a speedrunning marathon that raises money for charity (they also do one in the winter, called Awesome Games Done Quick). SGDQ raises money for Docters without borders and features high-level play by some of the best runners for their games, with interesting and entertaining commentary, explaining the tricks and glitches they use and things about the game. The stream is live non-stop and features lots of different games (you can find the schedule here) so whenever you have time to watch, there'll be something going on. The runs get uploaded to youtube to this channel here so you can watch back runs from previous years. To give some examples, here's some of my favourites: Show Spoiler Hide Spoiler Hilarious video with great commentary. My favourite run out of all the events done so far. Fantastic commentary, highly entertaining. May seem a bit long, but definitely worth watching. An example of the silly challenges and things people can donate for (more info below) This... just watch it. I guarantee you will be laughing at least half the time. And lastly, i guess you could say a classic run. No silly extra's or anything, just a very high skill race. Now of course a big part of this is to entertain people, but the main goal is to raise money for charity. You can support the cause by donating (obviously). If you do this, you can leave a message which *should* get read on stream. If there's a lot of donations and not many opportunities to read them (due to commentary for the runs) they might not be able to read them all. Besides this, you can also put your money towards various goals, for things like Bonus runs, a different character or gamemode, a challenge during the run, and things like that. There's a lot of choice. If you donate a certain amount, you will also automatically be entered to win prizes. You don't have to donate of course. Just watching supports the cause. For every X amount of viewers/followers (can't remember the exact amount) Twitch will donate an amount of money. So just spreading the word helps. Lastly i would like to give some recommendations, if they are at a convenient time for you, i recommend that you watch them. (if not you can always watch them back). Show Spoiler Hide Spoiler - Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island by Trihex. He's done this run before and the skill level is ridiculously high. Trihex is also a great commentator. If you have time to watch this at all, do so. - Metroid Prime 2: Echoes by Miles. Again, this is not the first time he's done this game at the event (he also did Prime 1 btw). The commentary there was great and i fully expect it to be the same this year. - The Legend of Zelda, swordless by jkoper. I shouldn't have to explain why you should watch this if you can. - Roundabout all cutscenes by Studio. Roundabout is a hilarious game (especially the cutscenes) and the game is pretty damn difficult as well. This can only be good. - Shovel Knight low% (shovel only) by MunchaKoopas. This sounds like an extremely difficult run, so i'm very interested to see how it turns out. - Pokemon Blue All pokemon run and after that Pokemon Blue bindfolded by Shenanagans. Shenanagans has done hilarious Pokemon runs before in the events, and these sound fantastic. - TASbot block by various TASers. TAS stands for Tool Assisted Speedrun. These are basically programs that tell the game frame by frame exactly what to do, resulting in ridiculous(ly skilled) and hilarious videos. Don't miss this. - Finale by everyone. I mean, it's the finale. Might as well stick around for it if you can, right? Hopefully you'll have a look, and if you do i guarantee you will not regret it.
