I must release the hordes of knowledge

Ok enough of that lets get to work.

1st step - Place your chest
    [IMG]

You don't need to raise it off of the ground.
You need a 1 block drop behind it for the next step.

Step 2 - First hopper and torch
    [IMG]

The torch is powering the hopper. A powered hopper doesn't transfer items.

Step 3 - The comparator and the 2nd hopper

Place the comparator pointing away from the chest.

The make the hopper feed into the comparator

    Step 4 - Add the 3rd hopper

Note: this is for a single set up. If you want more than one please refer to the tillable section for details

    Step 5 - Redstone
    5A)

Add the two back stones to this setup and top with redstone dust.

    5 B)

Place a repeater under the dust. Make sure it is facing the torch

    Step 6 - Sorting Filter
    [IMG]

Place 21 cobble or 21 of an item you wont miss into the hopper. Add one of what ever you are sorting.

Note: Don't add cobble or substitute to this system. It will go into the first chest it will find filled.

    Step 7 - Repeat
You can use a trap chest to compact it like so

However, do not open the trap chest until sorting is done. It locks up the system.

Youtube videos I used to learn.
